Employees at AAA Appliance Service Center® participated in a food drive for the 2011 holiday season and they greatly exceeded their collection goal.

AAA Appliance Service Center®, a Chicago area firm, participated in the Greater Chicago Food Depository food drive named "One City, One Food Drive". The time, energy, and support made it possible for the Food Depository to ensure that 678,000 hungry men, women, and children in the Chicago community who turn to pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters for emergency and supplemental food each year, will not go hungry. Food drives are an important source of nutritious food for hungry community neighbors.

The problem of hunger in Cook county Illinois is too big for the Food Depository to handle alone. Fortunately, each year, thousands of individuals, corporations, and organizations join the Food Depository in the fight against hunger by organizing food drives to collect food that is needed in the community. AAA Appliance Service Center® is one such company.

AAA Appliance Service Center® collected 820 pounds of food toward their goal of 700 pounds. The collection consumed half a conference room during the food drive. The 820 pounds of food donated is expected to provide 630 quality meals for the hungry in the community.

On January 1, 2011, a new law went into place in twenty six states (including Illinois) that mercury or anything containing mercury cannot be shipping into those states. That includes the specialty thermometers and thermostats for commercial pizza ovens. There are thousands of restaurant pizza ovens that use such equipment to regulate the temperature.

With the implementation of the new law, restaurant operators with ovens needing repair are having trouble getting the original equipment manufacturers (an OEM) such as Blodgett, Montague, Imperial, Vulcan Hart, Garland, Southbend, and Bakers Pride to make needed repairs. The thermometer and thermostat parts are listed as no longer available; referred to in the appliance repair industry as NLA.

Appliance equipment designed for commercial restaurant service is just one area that James Dolbeare is an expert technician in. He gave a presentation to an industry convention in New York City on May 1, 2011 about a legal solution he has found to repair these pizza ovens, to circumvent the costly retro fit of almost $2000 (or more), and complete the repair for less than $800. His sharing of his solution to this problem keeps the intent of preventing the transportation of mercury in place; it also allows other commercial appliance repair technicians to service their customers in their home markets. Just as important, the restaurant can get its equipment working again quickly.
